Professional Experiences

What I've done in my professional life!

Youth Development Initiative Project (YDIP)

During my time with YDIP, I had the opportunity to work in two offices on campus, the first was human resources and the second office was marketing and e-communications. It was a fascinating experience because as a teenager I got exposed to what the professional world was like. Working in HR was extremely plain, I spent most of the time filing folders and watching movies online. The e-comm office was fantastic! I had the opportunity to familarize myself with coding for the first time and concepts like word of mouth and salesforce. I bete tested the Northeastern Uni App before it release and I was amaze at the user interface. My boss Makeda Warren Kegan was extremely supportive throughout the years. My workload was minimal most summers however the experience was one I truly enjoyed.

Global Potential

I participated as a student and youth facilitor throughout my time at Global Potential. One of my most memorial moments was being a youth facilitor abroad. It was challenging because my group had difficulties working together as a team. We spent the first half of the trip in disagreement because of seniority and experience. Towards the end of the trip we managed to work together and overcome our differences. Another experience was my project for phase 3 of the program. I decided to internship at the main office. I learned about grant writing and how a non-profit organization functions. Here is a video of what Global Potential does!

Sociedad Latina

This non-profit has been around the mission main area for many years. They've face many obstacles both financially and existentially. The most fascinating aspect of this program is how they have been able to overcome everything and continue operating from the same location. Sociedad Latina has the same philosophies as Global Potential however their focus is on the small scale. Youth participants go through the community avocating for change and organizing events for residents of near by neighborhoods. I participated as a youth facilitor during the summer a few years back. I visited museums, the copley library, and took part in weekly workshops to learn more about history and how the histories of the past affect us to this day!

Museum of Science

Lastly, the Museum of Science's Sci-core program and the computer club house were seperate programs I enjoyed taking part in. For the sci=core program, we participated in internships throughout the museum exhibits every Tuesday. I was interning at the design challenges exhibit. It was an interesting place because children and adults had the opportunity to participate in different experiments. My favorite one was the speed boat challenge. The point of the challenge was to figure out how to make the small boat go fast downwards without sinking. I couldn't particpate but it was fun. The computer club house was another interesting program. I used to go every summer and participate in any of the activities they had at the clubhouse. I recall one activity involved 3-D printing. I loved it because it was great seeing the printer design the object in real time and see the final product some to life. The activities mainly focused on small group games and fun activities. They had a small studio which was cool. The best part was being able to go to the museum for free.

Fun fact: I also worked with one of the scientists there for my science project! My project was on seperating H2O into their seperate elements Hydrogen and Oxygen. It came out to be a fantastic presentations!
